Gnomes in the Yard Podcast

Episode 2: November 2018

featuring Kathy Cook

We were so pleased that Kathy Cook joined us for the second podcast of Gnomes in the Yard.

Kathy  has been involved with music as long as she can remember. Her formal musical education began at age 7 when she started mandolin lessons at the Ukrainian Hall in Calgary. Her lifelong love of music has led her to sing, perform and record with  duos, trios and bands across Alberta.

This ever expanding musical universe brought her together with a who's who of Alberta's celtic and folk music including James Keelaghan, Jenny Allen, Ruth Purves-Smith, Tim Williams, Ron Cassat, Ralph Boyd Johnson, Anthony Burbidge, Paul Millar, Magnolia Buckskin, Wilf Carter, among others.

Her mandolin skills, have won her praise as a mainstay on the Calgary Music scene. She has taught mandolin and guitar in Calgary Board of Education adult evening classes and with Foot Hills Acoustic Musical Institute for many years. In more recent years Kathy has enjoyed working with a quartet named Magnolia Buckskin. It is with this this group she began to hone her skills as a songwriter.
